Resource Abstract:
description: This map contains layer groups for each year from 2000 to 2009. Within each group is a point and polygon featureclass. The point represents the centroid of the fire and is used for display at small scales (zoomed way out) and fire labeling. The polygon featureclass contains the actual fire perimeters as reported to GeoMAC. The centroids were derived from the polygon data.; abstract: The Geospatial Multi-Agency Coordination Group, or GeoMAC, is an internet-based mapping tool originally designed for fire managers to access online maps of current fire locations and perimeters in the conterminous 48 states and Alaska. Perimeters are submitted to GeoMAC by field offices and then posted to an FTP site for downloading. This file contains all fire perimeters that were submitted to GeoMAC ( http://www.geomac.gov/ ) by field offices for the past several years.
