Reef Fish Visual Census Statistical Sampling Models (RVC)
Dataset Identification:
Resource Abstract:
Provides advanced statistical sampling framework for multispecies, length-based population assessments for coral reef fishes
using fishery-independent approaches. Outputs include total population abundance, distribution among habitats, size structure,
projected spawning potential, and average size in the exploitable phase by habitat, geographical region, and management strata.
Model being applied to coral reefs in the Florida Keys, Dry Tortugas, and to reef fisheries in Puerto Rico. [ Model Input
Types: Remotely Sensed Information In Situ Information ] [ Products and Services Supported: The model provides optimal sample
allocations of sampling effort for monitoring heterogeneous coral reefs stratified by depth, region, habitat type and management
intervention. It uses a two stage spatial design that minimizes the CV for selected reef fishes based on sample size. ] [
