purpose:
The data release provides a detailed digital field-verified map of irrigated land use within Martin County, Florida and a
table summarizing the results for the 2017 growing season (November 2016 through September 2017). The land-use map and acreage
table produced for this study will be compared to the Florida Statewide Agricultural Irrigation Demand (FSAID) Irrigated Lands
Geodatabase (IGL), version 4 (The Balmoral Group, 2017) totals for Martin County, in an effort to help validate the irrigated
crop acreages estimated in 2015 and to provide a better basis for the next set of estimates in 2020. Field-verified data on
crop type, irrigated lands, and acreage summaries provide FDACS a more accurate basis for estimating current and future water
demands. Details on the procedures and methodologies used for mapping and field verification in Martin County are the same
as those used for Polk County, Florida, and can be found in Marella and others (2017). Reference: Marella, R.L., Berry, D.R.,
