Resource Abstract:
The gravity station data (4,778 records) were gathered by various governmental organizations (and academia) using a variety of methods. This data base was received in April 1986. Principal gravity parameters include Free-air Anomalies and Simple Bouguer Anomalies (no terrain correction applied). The observed gravity values are referenced to the International Gravity Standardization Net 1971 (IGSN 71). The gravity anomaly computation uses the Geodetic Reference System 1967 (GRS 67) theoretical gravity formula. The data are randomly distributed in and around the Vernal (Utah/Colorado) quadrangle.

evaluation Method Description  Horizontal accuracy varies from source contributor to source contributor. However, horizontal positions are usually taken from topographic maps of the area being surveyed. Accuracy may range up to +/- 100 feet.
AbsoluteExternalPositionalAccuracy
name Of Measure Vertical Positional Accuracy Report
evaluation Method Description  Vertical accuracy varies from source contributor to source contributor. However, vertical positions are usually taken from topographic maps of the area being surveyed, monumented benchmark locations, or they are determined by the use of the Global Positioning System (GPS). Accuracy may range from meters to centimeters or better.

measure Description  Statistical analysis.
evaluation Method Description  Gravity data values are the result of the measurement of small variations in the gravitational field of the earth. The magnitudes and ranges of these variations are well known in the potential field discipline.
Quantitative Result
result value Variable: the average acceleration on the Earth's surface is about 980 centimeters per second squared, which is equal to 980 gals, but increases by about 1/2 percent from equator to pole.
