Resource Abstract:
The study area is located ~50 km north of downtown Tucson, and is bounded by the Tortolita Mountains on the south, the Suizo
Mountains on the west, and Black Mountain on the northeast. The map area covers the Chief Butte 7 ' Quadrangle. The area was
mapped during October 2001 through April 2002 as part of a multiyear mapping program directed at producing complete geologic
map coverage for the Phoenix-Tucson metropolitan corridor. A 1:24,000 scale map is the primary product of this study.This
map builds on and complements previous and concurrent surficial geologic mapping efforts in the Tucson area. Supplemental_Information:
The mapping was done under the joint State-Federal STATEMAP program, as specified in the National Geologic Mapping Act of
1992, and was jointly funded by the Arizona Geologic Survey and the U.S. Geological Survey under STATEMAP Program Contract
#01HQAG0098. The view and conclusions contained in this document are those of the authors and should not be interpreted as
necessarily representing the official policies, either expressed or implied, of the U.S. Government.
