Resource Abstract:
The Environmental Response Management Application (ERMA ) is a web-based Geographic Information System (GIS) tool that assists both emergency responders and environmental resource managers in dealing with incidents that may adversely impact the environment. ERMA integrates and synthesizes various real-time and static datasets into a single interactive map, thus provides fast visualization of the situation and improves communication and coordination among responders and environmental stakeholders. Pacific Northwest ERMA is an online mapping tool that allows stakeholders and communities to visualize ecological, land use, and infrastructure data in one centralized location. With the increase in oil transported by rail in the region, along with existing marine traffic, emergency planners are relying upon ERMA to help prepare and respond to environmental pollution incidents in Washington and Oregon.
